Elevation of drooped eyebrows

Direct Brow Lift

If the upper eyelid folds are redundant due to drooping eyebrows, the doctor can elevate the brows and lids by removing excess skin above the brow or on the scalp, thus creating an appearance of greater alertness and vivacity.

Internal Brow Lift

If the eyebrow is only minimally drooped, it can now be elevated through an internal approach via the upper eyelid incision.  This new technique prevents scars in the forehead or hairline.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

For moderately drooped eyebrows, Dr. Putterman employs a new technique.  Small incisions slightly behind the hairline are made, and an endoscope is used to release the tissues that adhere to the bone of the forehead and the top of the head.  Frown muscles are removed; then the entire forehead and scalp are shifted backward and held in place with screws and staples that are removed after a few weeks.

This procedure not only lifts the eyebrows, it also lifts and smooths the entire forehead.  Best of all, it's a less invasive surgical technique than the traditional method, which requires an incision from ear to ear.

Elevation of drooped eyebrows Surgical Techniques

Direct Brow Lift

A. Skin is removed directly above the eyebrow or above a forehead crease.

B. The remaining skin is connected together with stitches and this elevates the drooped eyebrow.

Internal Brow Lift
A. After releasing the skin from underlying tissues through the same incision used to remove upper eyelid excessive skin, a suture is passed through the forehead tissues.

B. The same suture then passes beneath the eyebrow skin.

C. When the sutures are tied the eyebrow is slightly elevated.

Endoscopic Forehead Lift
A. Approximately six incisions are made in the hair behind the hairline.

B. The tissues that line the forehead are released from underlying bone and muscle.  This allows the forehead to slide backwards.

C. Staples and screws are used to temporarily hold the forehead backwards.  This allows the tissues that line the forehead bone to seal to the forehead bone at a higher level, and raises the brows and forehead and smoothes out forehead wrinkles.  Staples and screws are removed approximately two weeks after surgery.
